By looking at the records your ancestors left behind, you can find clues that tell their story. Maybe your ancestor lived through a world war. Maybe they lost a spouse young. Maybe they were abandoned as a child. These are the things that records can tell us. You can begin to uncover your ancestor's story, and start to understand their trauma and experience while exploring how that might be affecting YOU. This is what we do in this online course.
I'll show you how to look at the records you have about your ancestor (if you don't have records, I'll show you how to find them), and use them to tell your ancestor's story. You'll look at the timeline of their life to piece together what really happened to them, while exploring family patterns and ways they coped with hardship.
Discover similarities with your ancestors and other family members.
Recognize you're a part of something bigger than yourself.
Find the hope, direction, and resiliency that's already in your bones.
Feel more purpose because you understand that what you do affects generations to come.
Realize your ancestors' humanity and imperfections, allowing you to show them and yourself grace.
I'm a wife, mother of seven, genealogist, podcast host, and online educator. Yes, it's a lot, haha. In 2020, I graduated with an associate's degree in Family History Research, learning the skills to effectively and professionally do genealogy.
While learning, I knew that I needed to share the tips and information so I started an Instagram account. This turned into courses, YouTube videos, and eventually I discovered my true passion: helping people unlock the power of truly knowing their ancestors.
I have become more connected to many of the ancestors in my family tree through learning their story. By looking deeper at their records, asking questions, and thinking about what life was actually like for them, I have developed a love and connection that provides strength and guidance in my life.
I know that you can feel this connection with your own ancestors, and this online course will accelerate that discovery.
In these modules, you'll choose one close ancestor to focus on for the course. This ancestor will ideally be one who lived between 1850-1950 in the US, Canada, or the UK (or in a country whose language you can understand.) You'll assess what information you already have about this ancestor and gather additional records if needed/desired. You'll also look at your own limiting beliefs and your goals for the course.
In these modules, you will learn how to look at the records and information you have about your ancestor in order to tell their story and discover clues to their well-being in 5 categories: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual You will look at their life as a child and as an adult. You may uncover signs of trauma, resilience, and what made your ancestor make the choices they did.
In these modules, you'll look at the important events in your ancestor's life and evaluate what effect they had on your ancestor's ability to cope. You will also look at any similarities and differences between you and them. You will develop a relationship with this ancestor by considering how their life is affecting you today.
Now that you have a very comprehensive understanding of your ancestor's story, you will write and share it using whatever format you prefer. You can write a one page summary of their life, a multi-page biography, or you can create a video slideshow that can easily be shared with your family. This is where your connection to this ancestor can be shared and felt by many.
The 40 page workbook is full of questions and guidance for completing each module's analysis and to maximize your learning.
For extra support, you will have lifetime access to a private Facebook group just for course participants. Ask questions, get feedback, or share discoveries.
Don't have any records about your ancestor? The research library contains multiple videos showing how to find certain types of records (census, vital, newspapers, etc.) and showing how to research on both Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. You can do this!
In a world that feels rushed, and adrift, and lacking eldership and anchoring, we can root into an unseen web of wisdom and grounded experience.
If you’ve felt longing for support, for understanding, for a connection, and perspective -- if you’ve ever felt a yearning to sink into a net of love, by getting to know your actual ancestors, they can move from conceptual ideas to personalities and essences and spirits you can actually identify, feel, and have a relationship with. Especially when the earthy world doesn’t seem to have your back.
They are here.
They are helping.
They want to support you and the generations to come.

No! You don't need to have ANYTHING recorded about your family tree to start. You don't even need to have a family tree for the course at any point. It will be helpful to have a family tree, just so that you can keep track of records you find and the information about your ancestors, but it is not required. In the first modules, I talk about different options for building and storing the information you find. You WILL need to have some information about your parents and grandparents so that you can find your great grandparents if you don't know them already. You will likely choose a great grandparent or 2x great grandparent to focus on for this course, so you just need enough information to know who one of them are.
Possibly. In the course, I show examples and instruction on how to find records in the US and Canada. I do show how to use a tool that will provide information about how to find records anywhere in the world, but some locations don't have any or minimal records available online. You can still choose an ancestor from one of these locations, but you will mostly use historical context to learn about what their life might have been like. You will choose one ancestor who lived sometime between 1850 and 1950 for this course. If you don't have any who lived in the US, Canada, or the UK, you can still do the course, you just may want to choose someone who's language you can read and understand.
This self-guided course was designed to be completed in 8 weeks. You may finish it much quicker than that if you already have a lot of information about the ancestor you choose to focus on. If you don't have any information about your ancestor, it may take longer, depending on how long it takes you to find the records you need.
Yes! You will need to have information about your grandparents, which will help you to find information about your great grandparents. Also, if you need or want additional help to get your family tree setup before starting the course, there will be an option to add a one hour call with me after checkout. In the course, I do not show how to build a family tree, but there is a research library that shows how to research and find records and there are many helpful YouTube videos out there about how to build a family tree using various programs (that I'll talk about in the course).
